An early 18th century oak chest of pegged construction.
Of particular interest in that it demonstrates the progression in design from coffer / mule chest to chest of drawers.
Moulded edge planked top lifting to reveal storage space, above an arrangement of two short over two long drawers.
The flush fitting drawer fronts emphasised by the surrounding applied half round mouldings.
Tear drop handles & fret escutcheons. Panelled sides & standing on bun feet.
Fabulous colour & patination, surviving the centuries in great condition.
Circa 1700~1725.
