Gilbert FOSTER RBA 1855~1906
Painter of landscape & rustic genre, who for a long time lived in Leeds. He
painted in oil, watercolour & charcoal.
Born in Manchester, son of a Birkenhead portrait painter. Studied under his
father & worked with him until 1876,
when he first exhibited at the RA. Titles at the RA include "Eventide", "The
Girl with the Geese", "Driving the Ducks".
He exhibited 1876~1906 at SS, B 3, L 5, M 8, RA 39, RBA 28, ROI 1 & elsewhere.
For some years he was art master at Leeds Grammar School.
Two of his works are in Leeds AG & one in Hull.
A most delightful summer boating scene at Kegworth in Leicestershire.
Signed oil on canvas 22" x 16" overall with original label verso.
