Bernascone of Methyr is listed in Goodison & also
Banfield, working from1840-60. The rosewood onion top case has
scroll shoulders & interesting original gold painted scroll
decoration simulating earlier brass inlay. The silvered hygrometer,
spirit thermometer, 10" main dial with ivory set key &
circular level with the makers name are all pleasantly decorated
with engraving. Circa 1850.

Antonio Mantegani is recorded as a barometer maker &
retailer in the High Street, Wisbech between 1825-60. This fine
mahogany two dial example is of the shouldered case design.
Its simple unadorned cdesign relies on the excellent selection
of flame veneers for its visual appeal. The 10" bow fronted
thermometer box with silvered scale above a comforming &
skillfully engraved 10" silvered main dial. A useful scientific
instrument within a beautiful piece of furniture. Circa 1840.

Francis & Co. are recorded working from Southampton Street,
The Strand, London from 1855-75. A mid Victorian rosewood wheel
barometer with scroll moulded outline. The 10" diameter silvered
main dial engraved with the makers name. Ivorine set knob &
thermometer within moulded edge case.

M.Barnasconi of Leeds is listed in Banfield working from
1825-50. He is also documented in Goodisons English barometers
where an almost identical example is featured on page 112, pl
65. The rosewood shouldered case is decorated with mother of
pearl inlay. The silvered hygrometer, thermometer contained
within a bow front case, 10" main dial & square spirit
level with makers name are all pleasantly engraved. Altogether
a nice decorative barometer dating from about 1840.

Alfred Mathews is recorded in Banfield's Barometer Makers
& Retailers as working in Leighton Buzzard Bedfordshire between
1847-77. A good example of a mid 19th century mahogany 5 dial
or banjo barometer. Having a swan neck pediment centred by a
brass finial. The case decorated with boxwood & ebony stringing
and a complimentary ebonised reeded bezel to the mirror. In
nice original condition. Circa 1850.
