Longcase Clock ~ROBERT FLETCHER of CHESTER circa 1790

Robert Fletcher is recorded working as a clock & watch maker at several Chester addresses in the late 18th century ~ Linenhall Street 1782, Foregate Street 1789-95, Higher Bridge Street 1792. The family business was taken over by his son, also Robert, who was granted his freedom in 1800.

The eight day duration, plated four pillar rack striking movement sounds the hours on a bell.

An arched dial features gilt spandrels, the corners painted with strawberries & flowers, together with a floral bouquet flanked by gilt scroll work within the arch.

Original diamond pattern hands with a subsidiary seconds dial above twin winding holes & a semi-circular date aperture are encompassed by Roman hours & Arabic numerals.

Oak case work is trimmed throughout with mahogany cross banding & fruitwood to the hood door. Typical characteristics of this area appear in the reeding to the hood columns, trunk quarter columns & the canted corners of the base. Other features include the applied panels to the lower trunk & base with nicely moulded upper edges standing on good original ogee bracket feet. Standing 85" tall.

A handsome Georgian longcase clock with interesting period detailing throughout.

Local delivery, setting up and 12 months guarantee on the clock movement is included in the price of £4995.
