Antique longcase clock made by WILLIAM HUNTER of BRIDLINGTON in Yorkshire ~ circa 1825

William & Richard Hunter are recorded working as clockmakers in the early 19th century in Burlington, now known as Bridlington, in Yorkshire.

The arched dial has well executed marine painting to the arch & spandrels. The sailing, coastal & light house possibly depicting local scenes. The dial with Roman numerals, subsidiary date & seconds dials, with the makers name to the centre. Original brass hands.

The 8 day plated movement with four turned & knopped pillars is rack striking & sounds the hours on a bell.

The neatly proportioned mahogany case, standing 87" tall including the finial, is of excellent quality. The hood with swan neck pediment, moulding to the arch, wavy back splats & reeded columns is complete with its original gilt brass paterae & finial. The trunk displays nicely figured mahogany throughout & is of good colour. Box wood stringing forms panels on the lower case & base. The dome topped line inlaid door is flanked by reeded quarter columns. Nice quality mouldings used throughout. Standing on a swept bracket plinth.

A very attractive mahogany longcase clock of easy to accommodate size & in lovely condition.

Local delivery, setting up and 12 months guarantee on the clock movement is included in the price of £5995.
